A Return, Superman Returns Review
Unspeakable feelings emerged when I heard this hero’s theme and watched him fly once more on the silver screen. Suddenly I’m 10 years old boy once more. A kid who was stunned by this superhero’s figure and expect to have his superpowers someday.
For me Superman is the most perfect hero, he is strong, he can fly, he has a laser beam from his eyes, X-Ray vision, freezing breath, bullet proof and many more. I feel silly to talk about something ‘not exist’ in this blog but hey, everybody has his own favorite hero and for me it’s Superman.
The plot is light and simple and it emphasizes the word Returns; it’s not only a part of a title or a campaign for the return of Superman on the big screen but also related to the story. In this movie Superman come back to earth after taking days off for about five years seeking for his native planet; Krypton. And the world had changed while he was away. And then he’s back and once more he becomes a savior of this planet. if you expect heavy actions from this movie you’ll be disappointed. Even the special effects are common, nothing new or groundbreaking but for sure it is much better than previous Superman movies. Bryan Singer as the director seems a bit hasty to show off this super human’s capability, and make the story a bit slow and romantic. Some part reminds me of 1978’s Superman The Movie, especially the scene when Superman took Lois lane for a ‘ride’. The choice for Lex Luthor as the felon for this movie also give us an idea that this ‘returns’ movie is a refreshment of Superman and other characters in his epic.
Brandon Routh plays well as Superman and Clark Kent, the boyish look thought I’d find on him was not there, for many aspects he really reminds me of late Christopher Reeves only a bit slimmer I guess. He can bring out Superman’s charm and personality, in fact his great look and smile put more characters of Superman than Christopher Reeves on some scenes. One thing changed I noticed was on Superman’s outfit; red color had changed with brownish maroon. The last but not least the curl hair in his forehead is still there, as a trademark of Superman.
Overall, despite of it’s lack of actions and imperfections this movie is worth expected and sees. It pays our longings for many Superman’s fans all over the world. Once more; it is a refreshment, a warming up, a statement that Superman is still there and reawakens. Again, watch him fly once more has brought some childhood memories and made me feel like a boy once more, even a friend of mine claps his hands on some scenes. Welcome back my hero! Look forward for more actions on upcoming years..
